In my initial forays into microtonal music, I tried out various equal temperaments but eventually decided to dedicate a significant amount of creative energy to just intonation. My reservations about equal temperament scales revolved around arbitrary dissonances, which, in many of the tunings, I found problematic. Oddly enough, extensive work in just intonation opened my ears to intervals in ways that helped me hear these “arbitrary dissonances” in various equal temperaments as consonances.

The Edotudes are intended as brief pieces that highlight one or two aspects of the given tuning. The initial idea was to start with 5edo, work my way through various macrotonal edos, and then focus on selected higher edos. But, as always, I have so many simultaneous projects going on that progress has been slow.
